Switching to WBFF

I've competed with NPC for the past 7 years and it's been a great ride, but this past year with some odd feedback that I don't particularly agree with I've decided its time for a change. I love competing but it's kind of lost its luster and not as fun as it used to be. I feel with all the hard work that goes into prepping for a contest that I should be having alot more fun once the show is here. So with some research and looking into other federations I've decided to switch to WBFF.

You may be wondering why. Well just by talking to others whe were in NPC and switched over to either WBFF or Fitness America, all have said they are having the time of their lives. To be honest by watching video it looks like alot of fun. So what the heck! I might as well try it. So in 2012 you will see me on a WBFF stage in Dallas and Oklahoma City. I'm soooo excited.

Done for the Season

Finished up my last contest for the year and will take a break from strict dieting. Although my goal is to stay as close to contest weight as possible. I'm looking to streamline my shape a little bit for the next show. I have a couple areas to work on. My glutes and low back need to be tighter. I plan to implement alot of lunges, squats, and spend more time on the step mill for cardio.

Here are a couple of photos from the Texas State Bikini Championships

New Food Finds

I've been getting alot of advice and researching quick and easy healthy foods. I don't travel often but when I do I want to make sure I have certain foods that I can pack that are healthy. I've actually found a few great things this week.

When I travel I always take a large Ziploc baggie of whey protein powder, protein bars, and tuna packets. I have now found some new items I can pack. When I was shopping at Kroger a couple days ago I found a package of precooked brown rice. All you need is a fork or spoon and a microwave if one is handy.
I also found out that airports consider peanut butter a liquid. I thought that was pretty odd but I did find a product that is a powdered natural peanut butter, even better it's 85% less fat. This can be easily packed in carry on luggage and not be considered liquid. It's called PB2.

Another product that was mentioned was protein bread. Yes I said protein bread, this bread has 28g. of protein, it's 100% whole wheat, and natural. I was very excited to hear this and was thinking what a great post workout meal of P28 bread, natural peanut butter, and jelly sandwich. They also make bagels.

Hopefully you will be as excited as I was to find these healthy food choices and all of them great for travel.

Summer Vacation

Well here we are already into July. I finished out the Spring with 2 contests and have been relaxing thus far this summer. We've spent several days out on the boat at the lake and did that much of 4th of July weekend. I'm now on vacation this week and am just plain relaxing and getting some great workouts in. My workouts have been great and my strength is definitely increasing. hopefully I will have added a bit more size before I start cutting for the next contest in October.

July is a busy month with a Product Education Conference in Orlando,Florida. All Vitamin Shoppe managers will be in attendance for the week. I will bring home lots of knowledge and looking forward to meeting many of our vendors. Following the conference I will be heading back to Iowa to see my family and attend my 25th class reunion. WOW!!! yes 25 years. Looking forward to connecting with classmates I haven't been in contact with for years and also those I speak to often.

Once I'm back in town toward the end of July I will be gearing up for contest prep sometime in mid to late August.

Hope you are all having a great summer so far.

XOXO

Competition

Well I made it through my 1st two shows of the year. It was a new experience as I switched from figure to bikini and had to learn a whole new way of posing and different type suits. I placed 3rd in Bikini Masters at the West Texas Classic and 10th in Bikini Class B.

One week later I competed at the Ronnie Coleman Classic, the largest show in Texas history. I placed 7th in Masters Bikini and 16th in Bikini Class B. There were a whoppin 28 girls in Class B it was like competing at nationals.

My next show will be in October. I believe I'm going to stick with bikini, my trainer and i both think it's more suited for my body type. I'm just going to try and add a bit more size to my legs, bring in my waist a bit and build and tighten the glutes more.

4 Weeks Out

I'm 4 weeks out from the West Texas Classic and 5 weeks from the Ronnie Coleman Classic. So far so good. My knees and back are holding up very well to the extra cardio sessions. It may be because I added Curcumin to my supplements. It helps with inflammation in my joints. The diet is going fairly smooth and not a ton of cravings or I should as many as I normally have cutting. Still have the typical peanut butter cravings. That I don't think will ever change.
I have progress pictures posted on Mybody Space at bodybuilding.com Gearing up for my next meal and my next cardio session.

Snowed In

Well we've been pretty much snowed in for the past 4 days here in the Dallas area. Just in time for me to begin contest prep. Typically the diet part is much harder for me when I'm home. So far this week It's been ok, I have not strayed or really even been tempted to cheat. I'm hoping this will continue, typically the first two weeks are pretty tough.
I think part of what is helping me is that I have all my food prepared and in tupperware the night before. I've expected to get to work each and day and have prepared for work. I think since this is working so well I will continue with this even on my day off. So much easier to grab what I need at the moment and not have to prepare it at that moment.
My training has been going well. Luckily I have equipment at home to get my workouts in with out straying to far from the plan. Just had to make a few adjustments with certain exercises and all cardio done on the treadmill. Just 6 weeks to go to my first contest of the year.

It's a New Year

I've finally graduated college, moved into a different home in November, bought a new car, and ready to roll for 2011. My plan is get back on stage and compete in the bikini division and who knows maybe I will look into a new federation for competitions and try something new.
I plan to take more time for myself as far as pampering and spa days maybe I will finally take up yoga and pilates.
I'm seriously considering ramping up my personal training business as it has been stagnant the last 2 years. If any of you are looking to get back into shape an inexpensive way to use a trainer is online training. If you are familiar with the gym already this is a great tool to use to get back into shape. You can contact me at kkschaef14@msn.com for more information. If you are in the North Dallas area I'm considering taking on new clients or starting a boot camp class. Let me know if you are interested.
Hope you all have a safe and healthy New Year.

Enjoying the Season

With school finished I actually have time to breath and enjoy the holidays this year. I don't feel like I'm rushing to get things done and I will actually have time to bake some favorite treats. All the kids will be with us this year and it should be a great holiday. Todd even will win the award for ugliest Christmas shirt. I might have to go find a Christmas sweater and see if I can beat him..lol
Happy Holidays everyone.

I Graduated

I just finished school as of last Tuesday and what a great feeling that is. I've worked so hard for the past 4 years to earn my degree in Business/marketing. For graduation I got a trip to Key West and enjoyed some down time. Now I can relax a bit and enjoy some free time. My plans are to get back in the gym at a higher intensity and perhaps get back on stage on 2011. My plan is to switch from figure to bikini and see how I do in that arena.
I'm very glad to have this free time during the Holiday season. I will be able to do the house up right and actually enjoy shopping again.
My graduation is February 19th in San Antonio TX. and very exited to walk across that stage. Well I'm off to the Gym...to train hard.

XOXO

What's New

I have about 8 weeks left of school and I will have my Business/Marketing degree after 4 years of hard work. First thing after I graduate I plan on a vacation some where warm for some serious downtime. I'm hoping next year to get back on stage to compete. I will be switching over from NPC figure to the bikini division. This is much more suited for my body type and will be a little less stress on my body.
My trainer changed up my workout from 5 days of weight training to three giving my body more rest in between. They are still very tough workouts and I find my body is responding very well to the change as well as freeing up a few evenings to devote to finishing school with straight A's. I'm doing cardio 4-5 days per week at a moderate level. I'm working on maintaining so it's not so hard to cut when the time comes.
I'll keep you posted on which shows I choose next year. Always in my mind is qualifying for a national show.

Saturday, July 10, 2010

We are well into summer and I just got back from a much needed vacation in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. We had a great time and met some great people.

In May I spent a few days in New Jersey on business followed by a trip back to Iowa for my oldest daughter's graduation. It's been a busy summer with travel, work, and school. I was promoted in May and have my own store now. In a couple weeks I have one more trip to Orlando for a week for PEC conference for work. The end of the summer looks to be pretty quiet and will be gearing up for getting my daughter back in school. For me I should be completing my bachelors degree in marketing mid to late November.

Spring is Finally Here

It's been a crazy couple of months. I'm glad to see Spring is here after the last snow we had just a few days ago. Very strange for Dallas. I'm going through some changes at work that have occupied my mind quite a bit and I'm still working on my Bachelor's degree in marketing. Looks like I will graduate in November, hopefully before Thanksgiving.
My workouts have been a little inconsistent in intensity. I'm still getting into the gym but my workout level is down some days. I would like to improve on that here in the near future, but it looks like work may have another thing to say. Its going to be pretty hectic as I will be working in 2 different stores acting as manager for one store. Its good experience and I'm thinking of it as a positive. It's going to be very busy through the end of May and I'm hoping things will slow a bit in June and I can take a much needed relaxing vacation.

Contest March 27

I've decided to compete at the West Texas Classic in March. I haven't been on stage in over a year and decided to get back up there in March. My classes are a bit easier now and can spend some time training a bit harder for this show. I have a couple trips scheduled that may make things difficult. I'm going to New Jersey the week before my contest for work that will be a challenge, but this whole process is always a challenge.
I'm glad to be training for something specific it always motivates me.

I will keep you posted. Here are pics. I sent my trainer at 10 weeks out.

2010

Well we are finally into 2010 and I was really ready to leave 2009 behind. I'm looking forward to making this a better year. I plan on spending more time with my goals and putting some other things off to the side. This will be a year where I maybe telling people no more often to clear up my plate and do what I need to do for myself with the exception of what my daughters goals are. Hers are very important as well. She is on the J.V. drill team and soon will be in the midst of contest season as well as preparing for making the Varsity Drill Team next year.

Her schedule is as important as mine and as a single Mom I need to make sure to be there to support her.

Mackenzie is second from the left (the tallest).

I myself might go ahead and get into competition mode as well. I'm considering a show in late March to qualify for a national show. I haven't competed nationally since 2006. I have one more year left of college and will be so glad to get that done and get my degree.

Happy 2010!

Saturday, August 29, 2009

Well I decided not to compete this year and probably will be done with it. It's time to move on. We have alot going on here in Dallas with two teenagers taking up alot of our schedule with Drill team, tennis, and soccer. It's going to be a busy year for us, we are also planning a June wedding in the Florida Keys. Another reason to pass on competing as I'm busy with that as well as work and school. I have just over a year left of that and than I will have my degree.
I have the weekend off and its time to go get some stuff done and hide from 4 kids.

Sunday, March 15, 2009

Well I have been pretty busy lately. School and work are keeping me busy. I'm now about 4 months into my bachelor's program with school and that so far is going very well. I'm working on getting my schedule under control and getting my training time back up. It's been hard because my work schedule is all over the map and that won't change so I need to do my best to adjust for that.
I've got about 3 weeks to decide if I'm going to compete in a contest in June. I'm on the fence on that one as of yet. I may start the diet and training and see where that puts my stress levels, if it gets to be too much I may just back out. My sanity at this point is far more important than competing.
It's nice to see Spring on its way, I'm ready for warm weather and getting my shorts and tank tops out and dusted off.
Updates to come soon on my plans to compete.

Whats up For This year

I've been contemplating what I'm going to do this year as far as competing. Originally I thought about taking the year off. Reasons being lack of time. time still may be an issue but I guess I won't know until I try.
My thinking is doing a local show in June which would be the Lone Star Classic in Plano, TX. This saves me taking extra time off for travel.
My new job is an assistant manager at the Vitamin Shoppe and with retail the hours are never the same and I do work weekends. School is another issue. I'm a student and have 2 years left. Between the 2 and being a Mom time for training is cut pretty short. I need to cut my gym time down and make it effective which should not be too much of a challenge and my diet has to be right on, meaning I must make it right on.
Luckily I have awesome co-workers who are willing to help me through making sure to cover while I sneak to the back room and get my meals in when I'm supposed to.
It will be a challenge but with help from my co-workers and my family I should be able to achieve.

The plan so far is...
June-Lone Star Classic Plano, TX
November- Figure Nationals Ft. Lauderdale, Fl.

Getting it Together

Well 2009 has come in with a bang. It's been very busy for me already. I started a new job and of coarse I'm still taking classes working on my bachelors degree. We also have a new addition to our home. We have a new puppy named Bella. She is like have a toddler in the house. She follows me everywhere. I forgot about the days of never being alone...lol

Bella is a miniature dachshund and loves to play a chew on my pant leg.

I'm trying to get my schedule straightened out in order to get everything done in a day. My workouts have to be fine tuned so I can get in and out of the gym. I'm also adding more equipment at home so I can save time driving to and from the gym by training at home to spend more time with my family.

I'm not sure yet which shows to compete this year. My work schedule does not allow for much travel. I will keep you posted. In the mean time I need to walk this puppy.
