I've been on a contest diet for the past 8 weeks and have another 6 weeks to go for my next contest. I try to keep the tempting foods out of the house. With children in the house that is not always a reality.
I've been thinking for the last couple of days how horribly unhealthy our children actually eat. I have a 16 and 13 year old daughters and believe me they don't eat the greatest all the time either. My children will eat home cooked meals and they do indulge in the occassional fast food, chips, and candy.
I've noticed some kids won't eat anything unless it comes from a box, can, or fast food bag. I notice it more because it's happening in my home. My daughter will eat home cooked meals although I find it hard to cook for one kid because I eat a very strict diet right now. I try and suggest healthy meals, it doesn't always work but I do try. I have noticed recently that a couple other children that are in our home for part of the time rarely eat home cooked meals. It's usually fast food, boxed meals, or Spaghetti O's out of a can. I read the nutrition label on one of those chilren's T.V. dinners and was totally appalled at what I saw for a meal made for a child there was
410 calories
9-10g fat
500-800mg. sodium
55-70g. carbs
13-23 g. sugar
protein a mere 10-13 g.
That is horrible no kid needs 68 g. carbs in one meal when there total carb intake for a day is only about 130 g.
A child needs about 90 g. protein and no one needs that much sodium and sugar in their diet.
Please read the labels before you feed your kids these meals and fast food is just as bad if not worse.
Short on time during the week. Cook meals on the weekend, freeze them and pop them out during the week. We don't need to teach our kids unhealthy habits, teach them to cook.
